Hello People of the Internet!

It’s 2024 — yep, you read that right. Time to swap out those 2023 calendars! As we step into this fresh year, let’s not just set resolutions but reflect on the journey we’ve had. Remember 2023? That was the year we dove into networking, built our communities, dipped our toes into the vast ocean of data science starting off as beginners, and gradually got our hands dirty with more advanced topics. If you’re looking at your 2023 goals and feeling a pang of regret for not crossing them all off, hold that thought. Don’t guilt trip yourself rather evaluate your intention and objectives for this new year.

Identify why these goals are important to you and personalize them. Personalizing your goals is like giving them a heartbeat; they live in your daily thoughts, guiding you steadily towards them. In the spirit of effective goal-setting, let’s borrow a leaf from my favorite book, “Measure What Matters.” The mantra? Objectives and key results. Set a goal for the year or quarter, and break it down into bite-sized, achievable sub-goals. Remember, you’re the captain of your ship; if an objective isn’t serving you anymore, feel free to adjust your sails.

Once you hit your targets, take a moment to bask in your success. Reflect on what worked, and if you didn’t quite get there, identify the hurdles and tweak your approach. Documentation is your friend here; it helps keep track of the lessons learned for future endeavors.

Now, let me share one of my goals for 2024: I aim to guide at least 50 individuals to find their niche in data science by year-end. How, you ask? By making this goal SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-bound). Here’s a sneak peek at my key results:

Main Objective: Guide at least 50 individuals to find their niche in Data Science.

Key Results:

  • Create weekly mentorship slots for anyone needing guidance in data science (feel free to book a slot with me!).
  • Commit to hosting and speaking at monthly events to help data enthusiasts carve their path in the field.
  • Document the progress of my mentees and gather feedback to guide their next steps at the end of each quarter.

Your turn now! Start by identifying three key goals or objectives for the year. And remember, as much as we want to hit the ground running, pacing ourselves is key to avoiding mid-year burnout. So, take it slow at the start, build momentum, and before you know it, you’ll be ticking off those goals!

That’s all for now. Time to embrace a slower start to the year, because hey, who wants to sprint into a burnout, right? So… see you around, and here’s to a goal-achieving, burnout-avoiding, absolutely smashing 2024! Bye for now!
